Passion vs. Purpose

Often, the words passion and purpose are used interchangeably. Especially in the career services space. I have a different philosophy.

You might feel peace when doing calligraphy, pleasure in doodling tiny stick figures on your notebook, or excitement when you spike the ball for the winning point in an intramural volleyball game. There may lie passion.

Maybe, you volunteer with a local shelter for people who are unhoused, foster pets, or read to children at your local library. On the days you are unable to make it in to perform your assigned duties, sadness or wonder fills your mind. How will X be impacted by my absence?

All of this to say, passion and purpose are not the same. Though, you can be passionate about the thing you find the most purpose.

Another way to think about it is legacy. Who do you want to be remembered as? What is the impact or contribution you seek to have on society, place of worship, school, or even a single person?

These are the types of conversations I have in my head, and I can't wait to have them with you.

My Journey to Purpose

I discovered my passion for career services in graduate school, thanks to two incredible mentors who showed me the power of guiding others to align their interests with meaningful, lasting careers.

But it wasn't until I stumbled into a science communication course that I found my purpose - giving voice to complex ideas and supporting others in finding clarity within their own story. I became a storyteller.

That clarity has only deepened over the years, leading me to create Nimbus Navigators. A space where passion meets purpose, and careers are built on intention.
